JazzFestBrno has prepared a new off-programme series under its patronage, called Tension. Wikipedia defines tension (music) as “the anticipation music creates in a listener’s mind for relaxation or release”. Artistic tension will very much be a part of this series, which will take festival fans to new locations and introduce them to artists that are outside the central focus of the programme but still deserve proper attention. Alternative musicians, mainly from the electronic scene, who seem to hardly touch jazz at first glance, but who are actually much more closely related to the genre than many of those who clamour to be part of it.
The pilot year will take listeners to Prague in Brno Club and introduce them to the new discovery of the electro-jazz scene, Zabelov Group, and synth master and Czech Angel Award-holder for electronic music, HRTL, who has got together with the saxophonist Martin Debřička and the drummer Michal Vacek exclusively for this event.
